The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering presents Program Director at the National Science Foundation and University of Louisville鈥檚 Edward R. Clark Chair of Advanced Manufacturing Kevin Chou for a seminar titled, 鈥淎dvanced Manufacturing at NSF: Overview, Funding Opportunities and Proposal Writing.鈥 This seminar will take place on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in room 106 of the John T. Rettaliata Engineering Center from 10:15鈥11:30 a.m.

Abstract

Advanced manufacturing (AM) plays a key role in the economy, national security, healthcare, and technology innovations and has been one of the high priorities in federal and state investments. The Advanced Manufacturing program at National Science Foundation (NSF) supports fundamental research aiming to revitalize American manufacturing, grow the national prosperity and workforce, and reshape the nation鈥檚 strategic industries. The AM program accelerates advances in manufacturing technologies with emphasis on multidisciplinary research that fundamentally transforms manufacturing capabilities, methods, and practices. In this seminar, the Division of Civil Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation, the directorate for engineering, as well as NSF鈥檚 organization will be presented. Then, we will talk about the overview of NSF鈥檚 AM program, followed by various funding opportunities in, or relevant to advanced manufacturing. These funding opportunities include the AM core program and cross-division, cross-directorate, and foundation-wide activities. We will finish up the talk through dialogues with the audience regarding NSF proposal writing.
