Hanaheh Esmailbeigi will present her research, titled “Intraoral Wearables: Less Explored Territories,” during the BME Seminar Series on Friday, February 11, from 2–3 p.m. via Zoom. 

Abstract 

Tongue movements are one of the most intricate motor activities in humans. The tongue’s physiological complexity and its inaccessible location inside the oral cavity limit our ability to quantify its fast and dynamic motion. Our team has developed a suite of discreet wireless intraoral wearables that enables analysis of the tongue motion. In this talk, we explore the application of these wearables in assistive devices and investigate the science of tongue motion.  

Bio

Hananeh Esmailbeigi is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Illinois �糵����. She is the director of the Wearable Technology and Sensory Enhancement laboratory. Her research focuses on developing discreet assistive and augmentative devices that foster independence for disabled individuals. She is also the co-founder and CEO of HideIT Wearable Innovations Inc.
