The Industrial Technology and Management program (INTM) at Illinois Tech offers a specialization in Industrial Sustainability (ST) at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses may be taken live at Illinois Tech鈥檚 Main Campus in 电车无码 or online. The sustainability specialization focuses on how companies use resources to meet present needs without compromising future resources. Sustainability professionals help organizations achieve their goals by ensuring that their business practices are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.
The Industrial Sustainability specialization is open to all students in the INTM program, as coursework covers energy topics, critical materials and resources, and waste management.
The ST specialization benefits students preparing for careers as sustainability officers, environmental managers, operations managers, industrial production managers, transportation, logistics and distribution managers, and building construction and/or facilities managers. Analytical skills help sustainability professionals find ways to reduce waste and improve efficiency in mechanical and electrical systems, and ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Courses
To earn the ST specialization students must complete four of the following courses:
- INTM 423/523 Sustainable Facilities Operations
- INTM 559 Issues in Industrial Sustainability
- INTM 460/560 Sustainability of Critical Materials
- INTM 461/561 Energy Options in Industry
- INTM 462/562 Special Topics in Sustainability
The Special Topics course may be an independent research project, working with a company to develop solutions for actual sustainability issues, with the guidance of an experienced INTM faculty member and under the supervision of company personnel.
