AMAT Professor and Chair Hickernell Speaks at Statistics Conference
Fred J. Hickernell, chair and professor of applied mathematics, presented an invited talk, 鈥Guaranteed Fixed-Width Confidence Intervals for Monte Carlo and Quasi-Monte Carlo Simulation鈥, at the 47th Journ茅es de Statistique Conference June 1鈥5 in Lille, France. Since 1970, the Soci茅t茅 Fran莽aise de Statistique () has organized Days of Statistics annually to bring more than 500 researchers, teachers and practitioners together.
Hickernell鈥檚 talk described recent work by IIT faculty and students to answer the question of when one can stop a simulation and know that the answer has the required accuracy. He presented along with 16 guest lecturers from the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Denmark and Germany.
