Illinois Institute of Technology students who are pursuing undergraduate degrees in computer science and information technology and management are now qualified to have their tuition covered through a new state grant.

Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker signed the in August, establishing a new program that makes students in programs in technology fields eligible for grants to cover tuition costs. The program requires students who receive a grant to sign a commitment to work for one year at a qualified job in Illinois for each year that they receive the grant.

“The talent, creativity, and innovative capabilities of tech leaders in this state have propelled Illinois to the forefront of international tech success,” Pritzker said in a news release. “Our best asset is our top-tier workforce, and that’s why we’re taking steps every day to push the bar higher and deliver new opportunities for every student. I’m proud to sign this legislation that will train and recruit the next generation of tech leaders and continue growing Illinois’ thriving tech sector.”

Illinois Tech’s resources ease the transition from graduation to the workforce by developing pipelines to high-paying jobs in the university’s hometown of �糵����, one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in the United States. 

As �糵����’s tech landscape matures, Illinois Tech is primed to develop a diverse pool of talent that feeds into the industry’s growing need.

“It is important for us to make sure that we partner with a lot of companies in the city, providing internships and other opportunities, and work with the schools in �糵���� to provide pathways that lead them into great tech careers,” says College of Computing Dean Lance Fortnow. “We have a great source of talent…and I think that we can help provide talent to big [companies] such as Google and small startups in the city.”
