Steve Discont received the 2017 Best LGBT Research Award by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology at the Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. His mentor is Mahima Saxena, PhD.

Undergraduate psychology major Shreya Jha was a recipient of the Illinois Tech Stryker Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented each year to 15 - 25 full-time undergraduate and graduate students who have made a distinguished contribution to campus life.

Undergraduate psychology major Dennis Tran received third place in the Mollie Cohen Prize for Poetry in the Illinois Tech鈥檚 52nd Annual Writing Contest for his poem, It鈥檚 not written. The poetry prize was established in 1965 by Mollie S. Cohen, a retired Illinois Tech English professor. During her time at Illinois Tech, Professor Cohen worked closely with women students and international students.

Nicole Johnson, a clinical psychology graduate student in Alissa Haedt-Matt鈥檚 lab, received a 2017 summer research fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. This is a very prestigious and highly competitive fellowship. 

Katherine Nieweglowski, a rehabilitation and mental health counseling master's student, received the National Council on Rehabilitation Education's Spring 2017 Rehabilitation Graduate Student of the Year Award.  She traveled to Anaheim, Calif. in April to accept the award.
