Enbridge Energy Company Establishes Engineering Scholarship at IIT

Enbridge Energy Company, Inc. has established a merit-based scholarship to help third- and fourth-year IIT students majoring in engineering who demonstrate an interest in the energy industry. Enbridge, which is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, transports energy and operates the world鈥檚 longest, most sophisticated crude oil and liquids transportation system.

A check presentation was held May 5, 2014 on the IIT Main Campus. Jerry Doyle, vice provost for student access, success and diversity initiatives, accepted the check from John Gauderman, the region operations director at Enbridge. Congressman Bobby Rush, Robyn Wheeler Grange, the district director for Congressman Rush鈥檚 Office and Enbridge officials Jaclyn Baine, emergency response coordinator and IIT alumna (CHE ENVE 鈥03), Jennifer Smith, community affairs advisor, and Michael Wortham, government affairs regional manager, also attended the event.

鈥淓nbridge strives to be a good neighbor in each one of the communities where we live, work, and operate,鈥 Gauderman said. 鈥淧artnerships such as this with IIT allow us to show our commitment to our partner communities through both community investment scholarships and the active participation of our employees.鈥

Preference for the scholarship is given to African-American and Hispanic students. The recipients of the scholarship will have the opportunity to apply for a paid internship at the company.
