Watch Commander Corey Banks: Making sure that students and staff are safe. Anything else can be fixed, but as long as they're safe and we know they're safe, we're okay.

Watch Commander Stanley Brown: We adapt as we go, observe, and then come up with formulated plans so we can react to it and keep the students safe.

[Public Safety Officer: Come on guys, I got you]. They are just like my children. Their emphasis should be learning and educating themself. Our emphasis is on their safety.

Zion Bishop (CS 4th Year): Walking around day or night, it was always safe for me. I never felt threatened especially because I knew Public Safety was always around. The safety in the dorms, I loved it because they have kind of like a two-step verification where you have to tap your ID before you even can enter the building. The automatic doors will open to even let you in, so if you don't have your ID or if you don't have access to the building—let's say like you live off campus—you're not allowed in the building.

The Guardian Rave app is another good tool to use around campus. I use it to book an escort van when I work at the library when I finish really late at night. Public Safety used to drive me to my residence hall when I lived on campus, now they drive me to my apartment near Bridgeport.

Watch Commander Corey Banks: It's also like a tracking app where you can let your parents or your best friend know, "I'm on my way. Watch me as I'm coming." You can also contact Public Safety through the Rave app. You can get an escort through the Rave app.

Zion Bishop (CS 4th Year): Student safety extends beyond the work that Public Safety does too. The Student Health and Wellness Center, which is accessible through your Rave app, online, or by phone, can help you manage your physical and mental well-being. That includes staff who are available to provide counseling around the clock. Additionally, the Office of Technology Services or Public Safety, in an emergency, can help should a cybersecurity issue arise.

Watch Commander Corey Banks: Once you hit the alert for Rave, it sends it to our dispatch. [Inaudible Dispatch Audio]. The Dispatch Center consists of an officer that sits there 24 hours and if they see anything out of the ordinary, they will call the Watch Commander in which we will dispatch officers over there and find out what's happening.

We patrol the buildings. We have a bike patrol that normally runs during the school days. We have two officers in the morning and two in the afternoon. [Inaudible Dispatch Audio].

My job is to make sure that your baby comes home when it's time for them to come home, and make sure they're safe while they're here with us
