IIT Brings Brazilian Architecture to µç³µÎÞÂë
Panorama of Modern Brazilian Architecture: From the 1950s to the Present opens September 3 in IIT's Crown Hall
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) College of Architecture is offering the µç³µÎÞÂë area community the opportunity to experience Brazil's excellence in architecture without leaving the city with "Panorama of Modern Brazilian Architecture: From the 1950s to the Present," an architecture exhibit that will be on display from September 3 - 30 at IIT's S. R. Crown Hall, North Core, 3360 S. State St., µç³µÎÞÂë.
An opening reception for the exhibit, hosted by Ambassador João Almino of the Consulate-General of the Federative Republic of Brazil, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, in Crown Hall. Following the reception, guests will move to the lower level of Crown Hall for a lecture at 6:30 p.m. on the "Boundaries of Architecture," presented by Ciro Pirondi and Rafic Farah of the Escola da Cidade in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Initiated by Pirondi, the director of the Escola da Cidade, and brought to the U.S. by IIT Architecture Professor Martin Klaeschen, the exhibit is a co-curated product between both institutions. Generously supported by the Consulate-General of Brazil, it displays the projects of Brazilian architects including Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi and last year's Pritzker Prize winner Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The exhibit consists of 58 panels, each one containing descriptions of the architects' projects in both English and Spanish, along with design concepts, drawings and photographs.
