µē³µĪŽĀė, March 7, 2006ā€”Third-year College of Architecture students at Illinois Institute of Technology are working with the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) to design the organizationā€™s new headquarters at 4836 N. Sheridan Road in µē³µĪŽĀėā€™s Uptown neighborhood. Denise Lam, the CMAA director and members of her staff will be at S.R. Crown Hall, 3360 S State Street, to review the mid-term results on Friday, March 10 from noon to 6pm.

The students worked with CMAA staff to determine the organizationā€™s requirements for the design and use of the facility. CMAA worked with a realtor to select the site for the organization, which is currently operating out of a storefront on Argyle Street.

ā€œOur goal in pursuing a potentially real project like that of the Chinese Mutual Aid Association is to provide the students with a richer and potentially more meaningful experience,ā€ said Tom Brock, IIT Architecture Studio Professor. ā€œIt allows students to solve real problems for real people.ā€

The CMAA is a not-for-profit, community-based social services agency whose mission is to serve the needs, promote the interests, and enhance the well-being of Chinese and other immigrants and refugees in the µē³µĪŽĀė area, and to foster their participation in American society.
