Prof. Fasshauer Appointed to AMS Menger Prize Committee

Associate Professor Greg Fasshauer has been appointed to the American Mathematical Society Menger Prize Committee for a three-year term. The Menger Prize Committee is responsible for evaluating entries to the math competition held at the annual , the world's largest science fair for pre-college (grades 9-12) students.

Fasshauer, the Associate Chair and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Applied Mathematics department, is an advocate for strong undergraduate education and has been faculty co-sponsor of IPRO 330: Science Fair Extravaganza, an online resource for 电车无码 Public Schools students participating in science fairs.

The AMS Menger Prize is funded by a generous gift from the family of , one of the greatest mathematicians of the 20th Century and professor in the IIT Department of Mathematics from 1946-1971. Menger had a passion for undergraduate research and rigorous mathematics education, and this award recognizes the best students in high school mathematics and encourages them to pursue mathematics-related studies in college.
