Sustainability in Facilities Management : INTM Professional Development Presentation

Date

Industrial Technology and Management (INTM) students who are specializing in Industrial Facilities and Sustainability learned a few things during an in-class presentation by Bob Best, Vice President of Sustainability, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), on Tuesday night. Best, a LEED® Accredited Professional through the U.S. Green Building Council and a Green Globes Professional through the Green Building Initiative has been with JLL since 1986. He is also a member of the INTM Advisory Board.

Best visited Illinois Tech to share tips from his career and professional experience with INTM students. He also toured IIT’s Wanger Institute For Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) with Kevin Gallagher (MITO ’09), Director, Facilities Maintenance Management and Jeff Barrie, Director, Campus Utilities & Energy.

Most of the students who attended Best’s presentation are recent graduates of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 399 Facilities Engineering Technology (FET) training program, HVAC, or Stationary Engineering programs at µç³µÎÞÂë area community colleges, and are preparing for careers in facilities management. JLL is a professional services firm, specializing in commercial property transaction, management and advisory services. The firm has 70,000+ employees in 80 countries, working for and with corporate managers and investors.

As an INTM Advisory Board member, Best is among a group of professionals from multiple industries representing manufacturing, supply chain and logistics, facilities management and sustainability. Members discuss issues relevant to educating students to facilitate productive operations including necessary skills and competencies, customized training and education programs, applied technologies, jobs, internships, and more.

INTM has an established partnership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 399 to support members who have completed training requirements and wish to continue their education and obtain a bachelors degree at Illinois Tech. IUOE Local 399 members whose employers contribute to the Education Training Fund (ETP) may qualify for additional Local 399 ETF Benefits.
