University Technology Park at IIT Participates in T. Boone Pickens Energy Town Hall Meeting

Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and University Technology Park at IIT (UTP) are participating in the T. Boone Pickens energy town hall meeting discussing the Pickens Plan for Energy Independence today in µç³µÎÞÂë.

IIT Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is home to research on the generation and transmission of wind power, specifically how to harvest the renewable resource and effectively transport its energy from sparsely populated areas to large load centers such as µç³µÎÞÂë. ECE wind experts also speak on and provide support for the positive economic impact and market implications of producing and selling wind power in the Midwest and across the globe. They are currently collaborating with industry leaders including Acciona, TransElect, Clipper, Siemens, and Department of Energy on projects including: The first Perfect Power Prototype in the U.S., grid connectivity and security for integrating renewable resources, wind power transmission, smart metering, and distribution automation.

Three UTP companies that are developing products in renewable and alternative energy are featured at the event: All Cell Technologies, LLC, Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies, Inc. (HEVT) and Sun Phocus Technology, LLC.

All Cell Technologies is dedicated to improving the safety and efficiency of high power lithium-ion battery systems. The company offers a game changing, customized thermal management solution for applications such as hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, electric automobiles, electric bikes and electric scooters.All Cell’s patented technology solves the safety issues that have prevented the use of lithium-ion batteries in high power applications and makes them a viable power source for electric powered vehicles. Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies, Inc. (HEVT) is an early-stage technology venture specializing in design and development of hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle controllers, drive trains and conversions. HEVT's mission is to lead the way toward sustainable transportation by providing innovative adaptive control units and integrated electro-mechanical drive trains for hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The company’s solutions address rising fuel costs, global warming, harmful emissions and sound pollution. Sun Phocus Technology was formed in 2005 to commercialize its proprietary holographic planar concentrator (HPC) technology, called HoloSunâ„¢, for electricity-generating solar windows, skylights and window walls. Sun Phocus is the first and only company to use HoloSunâ„¢ in the building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) market, and has a worldwide, exclusive license from the patent holder (Illinois Institute of Technology) for this application for the life of the patent.

US Representative Rahm Emanuel is introducing Pickens, and µç³µÎÞÂë Mayor Richard Daley is participating in the event, which introduces the Pickens Plan to the µç³µÎÞÂë area and showcases µç³µÎÞÂë as a city that is ready, willing and able to lead the nation in creating new business and job opportunities in alternative and renewable energy. The Pickens Plan aims to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives, developing greater new technologies including building new wind generation facilities and better utilizing the nation’s natural gas resources to replace more than one-third of foreign oil imports in a 10 year period.
