Skilled for Success
Weston Sterchi accepted a job with Segal, a human resources and benefits consulting company, in their retirement practice soon after graduation. He says the coursework offered at Illinois Institute of Technology gave him the skills he needed to land the job.
鈥淒uring my interview with Segal, one of the interviewers noted my unique background of high-level mathematics blended with quantitative finance, which they thought would provide a unique perspective to operations in their retirement practice,鈥 Sterchi says.
Sterchi began at Illinois Tech as an undergraduate student earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree in applied mathematics. During that time he took courses in mathematics and business finance to prepare for graduate work in the Mathematical Finance degree program.
鈥淭hese courses were rigorous yet rewarding, ultimately preparing me for the challenging graduate courses,鈥 Sterchi says. 鈥淭hese graduate courses, which are centered around quantitative finance, have given me the solid foundation I鈥檒l need to work as an actuarial analyst. I enjoyed the challenging aspects of these courses, and they prepared me in successfully passing three actuarial exams given by the Society of Actuaries.鈥
