Undergraduate Admissions Transfer Students

Transfer Students

Illinois Institute of Technology offers an unparalleled academic experience for all of our students, including many students who transfer to our university from two- and four-year institutions. Each year transfer students make up approximately 30 percent of Illinois Tech鈥檚 incoming class.

Transfer students choose Illinois Tech because they know that a degree from a world-class university will prepare them to achieve more. At Illinois Tech, students will find a strong and supportive community of aspiring entrepreneurs, architects, engineers, inventors, businesspeople, scientists, and others who are pursuing careers in tech-focused disciplines.

If your goal is to aim high and advance your future, you鈥檒l fit in here.

Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI)

Illinois Tech accepts coursework designated by the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), a statewide articulation agreement between participating institutions that facilitates the seamless transfer of general education courses and select major courses.

Academic Honesty Policy

Illinois Tech values academic honesty beginning during the admissions process and throughout a student鈥檚 education. Prospective students are expected to represent their academic qualifications with full honesty and transparency. You can learn more about Undergraduate Admission's Academic Honesty Policy here.

The evaluation of domestic coursework taken at a regionally accredited college or university within the United States is completed by the Office of Undergraduate Admission at the time of admission to a baccalaureate degree program. Official college transcripts are required for each institution the student previously attended and are submitted with the admission application to Illinois Tech. Courses may be acceptable for transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities provided they are comparable in scope and level to those offered at Illinois Tech, and the grades are the equivalent of a 鈥淐鈥 or higher. Grades of 鈥淐-鈥 are not acceptable for transferable course credit.

A maximum of 68 transfer course credit hours from a two-year institution may be applicable to an Illinois Tech undergraduate degree program. There is no maximum number of hours of transfer credit from a four-year college; however, the final 45 semester hours of any undergraduate degree program must be completed in residence at Illinois Tech.

Course unit values that are based on a quarter-hour system will be converted into semester hour unit values:

  • 5 quarter credit hours = 3.33 semester credit hours
  • 4 quarter credit hours = 2.67 semester credit hours
  • 3 quarter credit hours = 2 semester credit hours
  • 2 quarter credit hours = 1.33 semester credit hours
  • 1 quarter credit hour = 0.67 semester credit hours
