Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Department of Mechanical, Materials, and Aerospace Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology is committed to welcoming students, faculty, and staff—whomever they may be, whatever their identity is—to come and live, study, and work together in our community.  

We expect everyone in our community to treat each other with respect and dignity, and we don’t tolerate bullying, shaming, or demeaning persons for any reason. Our goal is to hear and understand concerns and implement changes when needed. 

Our department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee consisting of student and faculty representatives is committed to hearing from students, faculty, and staff to better understand their concerns and to implement ideas for needed change across the university.

Events

The MMAE department organizes and participates in a variety of events that aim to cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community, both within the department and more broadly.

MMAE faculty regularly participate in Illinois Tech’s STEM Café program, which is a program that provides opportunities for high school students in the µç³µÎÞÂë area to explore their curiosities in computing, mathematics, information technology, engineering, and business through hands-on activities and discussion topics guided by Illinois Tech faculty.

The department also partners with  to host outreach activities for local K–12 students aimed at sparking interest in the aviation and aerospace industries.
